Through its SWEPCO subsidiary, AEP is the regulated electric utility next door in western Arkansas, northwestern Louisiana and northeastern Texas, courting the same industrial and data-centre load and arguing rate cases before the same state commissions as Entergy.

P/E: 21.2Score: 57Market cap: $92.83B

Its Mississippi Power unit serves the 23 counties of south-east Mississippi alongside Entergy Mississippi, and the two groups compete across the US South-East for large industrial customers and for the capital that funds new generation.

CenterPoint runs the electricity network of the Houston area and gas distribution in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi, so it bids for the same Gulf Coast growth — petrochemical plants, LNG and data centres — that drives Entergy's demand.
