Cal-Maine, Others Poised to Settle DOJ Egg Pricing Probe

Cal-Maine Foods Inc. is reportedly nearing a settlement with the US Justice Department and a coalition of states regarding an investigation into alleged illegal price coordination in the egg market. While specific terms are undisclosed, the resolution of this probe, which has cast a shadow over the company's operations and investor sentiment, is seen as a significant positive development. The potential for a definitive end to legal uncertainties could remove a key overhang, allowing the market to focus on Cal-Maine's operational performance and future growth prospects in the poultry sector.

Cal-Maine’s stock falls as DOJ reportedly weighs bigger crackdown on major egg producers

Cal-Maine Foods Inc. stock experienced a decline following reports that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is considering a more significant enforcement action against major egg producers. While egg prices have fallen from their March 2025 peak of over $6 per dozen due to flock replenishment, the potential for increased regulatory scrutiny introduces a new layer of risk for the company. Investors are now weighing the implications of potential antitrust investigations or penalties, which could impact future profitability and operational strategies for Cal-Maine and its peers in the industry.
