Verizon’s stock rises after earnings — and a surprise entry into a new AI business area

Verizon Communications Inc. saw its stock price increase following its latest earnings report, which also revealed a strategic expansion into a new artificial intelligence business area. The company's Chief Financial Officer highlighted a significant new revenue stream derived from a 'dark fiber' deal with Google, which is expected to contribute positively beyond its core operations. This diversification into AI, coupled with the new revenue source, suggests potential for future growth and enhanced profitability, making it an attractive prospect for investors seeking exposure to both telecommunications and emerging tech sectors.

SpaceX panic sends Verizon and AT&T shares toward their worst week in years

Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ) and AT&T Inc. (T) are experiencing significant stock declines, heading towards their worst weekly performance in years. This downturn is attributed to the increasing competitive threat posed by SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet service. The looming competition from Starlink, which offers a potentially disruptive alternative for broadband and mobile connectivity, is creating investor apprehension about the long-term market share and revenue prospects of these established telecommunications giants. The market is reassessing the traditional telecom business model in light of this emerging technological challenge.

Verizon, BT Merge International Units in Home Markets Pivot

Verizon Communications Inc. and BT Group Plc are merging their international businesses into a joint venture. This strategic move aims to remove low-margin international operations from their balance sheets, enabling both telecom giants to concentrate resources and strategic efforts on their respective domestic markets. While the specifics of the JV's valuation and profit-sharing are yet to be fully detailed, the divestment of non-core assets is generally viewed as a positive step towards operational efficiency and a sharper focus on core revenue streams, potentially improving future profitability for Verizon shareholders.

Why being dumped from the Dow is the ultimate buy signal for this — or any — stock

The article posits that being removed from the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) can serve as a powerful contrarian buy signal for a stock. Historically, companies exiting the index have often outperformed those that replaced them. Verizon, recently removed from the DJIA, is presented as the current beneficiary of this 'Dow curse.' Investors might interpret this as an opportunity to buy Verizon shares at a potentially undervalued price, anticipating a rebound and outperformance against market expectations.

Why getting dumped from the Dow is the ultimate buy signal for this — or any — stock

The article posits that being removed from the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) acts as a contrarian buy signal, citing historical data where stocks exiting the index have often outperformed those entering. Verizon, recently replaced in the DJIA, is presented as a potential beneficiary of this 'Dow curse' effect. Investors may interpret this as an opportunity to acquire shares at a potentially undervalued price, anticipating a rebound driven by the very factors that led to its removal, or simply by market overreaction. The narrative suggests that the market's focus shifts away from the stock after its exit, allowing for organic growth to be recognized.
