Both underwrite standard and specialty commercial property and casualty coverage for US small and mid-sized businesses through the same independent agent and broker networks.
Travelers is the largest US commercial property and casualty writer and competes with CNA line by line, from workers' compensation and general liability to management and professional liability.
W. R. Berkley writes the same niche specialty and excess-and-surplus commercial risks that CNA targets, and CNA names it in its own peer group.
Through its Great American subsidiaries, American Financial Group sells specialty commercial coverage to comparable niche business segments and appears in CNA's stated peer group.
Chubb is the main rival in the specialty commercial lines that drive CNA's premium — professional liability, management liability, cyber and surety — for the same corporate and professional clients.
Liberty Mutual, though a policyholder-owned mutual, is one of the largest US commercial insurers and bids against CNA for the same mid-market and national accounts business.
