Williams is the closest peer in long-haul interstate natural gas transmission, competing for the same producer and utility shippers moving gas from the Marcellus, Haynesville and Gulf Coast basins to end markets.
ONEOK competes in natural gas gathering, processing and NGL transport, and after the Magellan acquisition also in refined-products pipelines and liquids terminals, the same markets as Kinder Morgan's Products Pipelines and Terminals segments.
Energy Transfer runs a comparably vast interstate and Texas intrastate pipeline network and bids for the same transportation, storage and NGL contracts, including competing expansion projects in the Permian and the Southwest.
Enterprise competes for the same midstream fee-based volumes in natural gas and NGL pipelines, processing and Gulf Coast export terminals serving Permian and Eagle Ford producers.
TC Energy's US interstate systems (including ANR and Columbia Gas) compete directly with Kinder Morgan's pipelines for firm transportation contracts from the same supply basins to Midwest and Gulf Coast markets.
Enbridge competes across North American liquids pipelines, US gas transmission (Texas Eastern, Algonquin) and export terminals, targeting the same shippers for crude, refined-product and natural gas capacity.

Energy infrastructure giant Kinder Morgan (KMI) is currently under the analytical microscope, presenting a mixed bag of analyst ratings that reflect diverse perspectives on its future trajectory. In January 2022, Wolfe Research upgraded its stance from "Underperform" to "Peer Perform," indicating an improved outlook relative to its industry peers. However, this more optimistic view is tempered by earlier, more significant downgrades. Specifically, in June 2021, Stifel revised its rating from "Buy" to "Hold," while Goldman Sachs went further, downgrading from "Neutral" to "Sell."
