Through Jersey Central Power & Light it is the other large regulated electricity distributor in northern and central New Jersey, serving about 1.1 million customers next door to PSE&G's territory and arguing its rate cases before the same state regulator.
Its Atlantic City Electric unit distributes power to more than 572,000 customers in southern New Jersey, and PECO covers the adjacent Philadelphia area, making Exelon the closest mid-Atlantic peer for the same kind of regulated delivery revenue.
Its Orange & Rockland and Rockland Electric businesses deliver electricity and gas in northern New Jersey and the neighbouring New York metropolitan area, the same dense urban market PSE&G serves.
It is the main rival of PSEG's nuclear fleet in the PJM wholesale market — the two even co-own Salem and Peach Bottom — and both sell that output and retail supply contracts to the same large energy buyers.
Its New Jersey Natural Gas subsidiary is the state's other big regulated gas distributor, competing with PSE&G's 1.8 million gas customers for households and for approval of infrastructure spending in New Jersey.
