The dominant commercial bank in upstate New York and New England, it takes on NBT directly for middle-market lending, commercial real estate and branch deposits, with a far larger balance sheet and advertising budget.
The closest match to NBT: a Syracuse-based community bank holding company with branches across the same upstate New York and northeastern Pennsylvania towns, and the same mix of retail and commercial banking plus wealth management, insurance and employee-benefit services.
Ithaca-based community bank serving the Finger Lakes, Hudson Valley and southeastern Pennsylvania — largely NBT's own footprint — with the same local-decision-making pitch to small businesses and the same trust and wealth-advisory business.
Competes branch-for-branch with NBT in northeastern New York — Glens Falls, Saratoga County, the Capital Region and the North Country — for household deposits, small-business loans and municipal banking relationships.
Its Five Star Bank subsidiary chases the same consumer, small-business and municipal customers across western and central New York, where NBT also lends and gathers deposits.
Schenectady-based bank competing with NBT for residential mortgages and retail deposits in New York's Capital Region and Hudson Valley.
