An arbitrator has ruled Uber vicariously liable for a driver's negligence in a fatal accident, awarding $40 million to the parents of a 23-year-old woman. The ruling rejects Uber's long-standing argument that it operates solely as a technology platform, not an employer responsible for driver actions. This decision could set a precedent, increasing legal and financial risks for Uber and potentially impacting its business model by suggesting greater responsibility for driver conduct. Investors will monitor further legal challenges and potential regulatory scrutiny.
