Visão Geral
Carrier Global is a United States maker of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, spun off from United Technologies in 2020. It designs, manufactures and services climate equipment for homes, commercial buildings and the cold chain, under brands including Carrier, Viessmann, Toshiba, Automated Logic, Carrier Transicold and Sensitech. In 2025 it reported $21.7 billion of net sales, with roughly 52% coming from international operations including US exports. Over 2024-2025 Carrier reshaped itself into a pure-play climate company: it bought the Viessmann Climate Solutions business in Europe and sold its fire, security, access-solutions and commercial refrigeration businesses, and it now reports in four regional and end-market segments.
Como gera receita
Carrier earns money in two ways. The first is the sale of new equipment — air conditioners, heat pumps, chillers, boilers, building controls and transport refrigeration units — which the 10-K says was 72% of 2025 net sales. Most of it is not sold directly to the end user but through a chain of contractors, dealers, distributors, wholesalers and sales representatives. The second is the aftermarket: replacement parts, contractual and on-demand maintenance and repair, digital monitoring and upgrades, which was 28% of 2025 net sales. The aftermarket follows the installed base rather than the construction cycle, so Carrier's stated strategy is to grow the share of revenue that comes from servicing equipment it has already sold.
Receita por segmento
Residential, light commercial and commercial HVAC equipment and building controls sold across North and South America, to homeowners through dealers and distributors and to commercial buyers in education, healthcare, retail, hospitality and data centres. It is the largest segment and the one most exposed to the North American residential replacement market.
The European heating and cooling business, greatly enlarged by the 2024 purchase of Viessmann Climate Solutions: residential heat pumps and boilers, light commercial and commercial HVAC and building controls, sold mainly through installers and distribution partners under the Viessmann, Carrier, Toshiba and Automated Logic brands.
The same HVAC portfolio adapted to the rest of the world, sold largely through joint ventures, sales representatives and distributors. Demand is weighted towards commercial and infrastructure projects in China, India, Japan and the Gulf states rather than towards residential replacement.
Refrigeration and monitoring for goods in transit: units for trucks, trailers, shipping containers and intermodal use, plus cold-chain monitoring, sold worldwide to fleet operators, shippers and food and pharmaceutical companies under the Carrier Transicold and Sensitech brands. Its 2025 sales fell 17%, largely because the commercial refrigeration business was divested.
Vantagem competitiva
Marca · EstreitaCarrier has some durable advantages, though not overwhelming ones. Its brands — Carrier in the Americas, Viessmann in Europe, Toshiba in Asia, Transicold in transport — are known to the contractors and dealers who actually choose the equipment, and those installer networks are slow and costly for a rival to replicate. Equipment installed today generates parts and service revenue for a decade or more, which is why 28% of 2025 sales came from the aftermarket; that stream is far stickier than the equipment sale itself. Against this, HVAC is a competitive industry with capable rivals of similar size, and pricing is contested in the residential and light commercial markets, as the 2025 volume declines in those businesses show.
O que impulsiona a procura
CíclicoMost of Carrier's revenue tracks cycles it does not control. Residential equipment follows housing turnover, consumer confidence and the summer weather; commercial HVAC follows non-residential construction and capital budgets, with data centres currently a strong pocket; transport refrigeration follows truck and trailer build rates and freight volumes, which swing hard. The company's own 2025 results show the pattern: residential volume down 9% and light commercial down 20%, while commercial HVAC grew 23%. The counterweight is the aftermarket, 28% of sales, which depends on the installed base rather than on new orders and holds up much better in a downturn. Replacement demand also cushions the cycle: an air conditioner that fails in August gets replaced whatever the economy is doing.
Principais riscos
- Weather, seasonality and the macroeconomic cycle — Carrier discloses that demand for its products depends on weather, on seasonality and on general economic conditions, including construction activity and consumer spending. A mild season or a weak housing market reduces equipment volumes directly, as the 2025 declines in residential and light commercial volumes illustrate.
- Supply chain, raw material costs and trade policy — The company lists risks from the availability and price of raw materials and components and from its dependence on suppliers, together with risks from global economic conditions and trade policy, including tariffs. Carrier manufactures and sells across borders, so duties and supply interruptions hit both cost and availability.
- Competition and pricing — Carrier discloses that it operates in a highly competitive environment and that it may fail to estimate costs correctly on the contracts it bids. Competitive pressure on price can compress margins even when volumes hold up.
- Acquisitions, divestitures and integration — The company flags risks tied to acquisitions and divestitures, to the resulting debt obligations and credit ratings, and to possible impairment of goodwill and intangible assets. This matters because the portfolio was rebuilt in two years: Viessmann was bought and four businesses were sold.
- Climate regulation and product transitions — Carrier discloses risks from climate events and from the regulation that follows them, and separately from the introduction of new products and technologies. Refrigerant and efficiency rules force periodic redesigns of the whole catalogue, and a redesign that arrives late or costs too much is a competitive problem.
- Information technology and cybersecurity — The company lists risks from failures of its information systems and from cybersecurity incidents. Its products increasingly include connected controls and digital monitoring, which widens the surface exposed.
- Joint ventures and international operations — Around 52% of 2025 net sales came from international operations, and Carrier discloses risks from operating abroad and from relying on joint ventures and strategic relationships it does not fully control — notably in Asia, where much of the distribution runs through such arrangements.
Concentração de clientes
The 10-K does not disclose a percentage for the largest customers. It states that Carrier believes the loss of any individual contract or customer would not have a material adverse effect on its results. That is consistent with a business sold through thousands of contractors, dealers, distributors and wholesalers rather than to a handful of large accounts — though it also means the relationships that matter are with the distribution channel, not with the end user.
Os argumentos a favor
Buyers argue that the two-year portfolio surgery has left a simpler company: one end market, climate, instead of a conglomerate spanning fire alarms, locks and supermarket cabinets. They point to commercial HVAC growing 23% in 2025 with data centre cooling behind it, to aftermarket revenue at 28% of sales and growing faster than equipment, and to Viessmann giving Carrier a leading position in European heat pumps just as efficiency rules push households away from gas boilers. They also argue that the weak part of 2025 — North American residential, down 9% on destocking and soft demand — is a cyclical trough rather than a structural loss, and that the installed base guarantees those units eventually get replaced.
Os argumentos contra
Sellers fear that the 2025 numbers describe a company shrinking on several fronts at once: total net sales fell 3%, Americas fell 1%, Asia Pacific fell 5% and Transportation fell 17%, and only Europe grew. They fear that North American residential weakness is not just destocking but a demand problem that lasts, and that light commercial down 20% signals the same. They worry that the reshaping was expensive — Viessmann was bought with cash and debt, and the disclosed risks around leverage, credit ratings and goodwill impairment follow from it — and that European heat pump demand has proved dependent on subsidies that governments can withdraw. They also point out that 72% of revenue is still equipment sold into competitive markets through third parties, where price is contested and the customer relationship belongs to the installer.

Named by Carrier in its 10-K as a leading competitor, Trane sells the same commercial chillers, rooftop units, applied HVAC systems and transport refrigeration to the same building owners, contractors and fleet operators, above all in North America.
Lennox competes for the same North American residential and light-commercial replacement demand, selling furnaces, air conditioners and heat pumps through the same distributor and dealer channel.
The world's largest air-conditioning maker, cited by Carrier itself, competes head-on in residential and light-commercial systems, heat pumps and VRF across the United States, Europe and Asia.
Through its York brand and its building-management platforms, Johnson Controls bids for the same commercial HVAC and connected-building contracts that Carrier pursues with its own controls and service offering.
Its Trane-partnered ductless and VRF business targets the same homeowners and small commercial buildings Carrier serves with its own split and variable-refrigerant systems in the US, Europe and Japan.
