Visão Geral

Crane Company is a US industrial manufacturer of highly engineered components and systems for aerospace, defense, space and process industries. It was separated from the former Crane Holdings in 2023, when the payment and merchandising business became Crane NXT, and it has kept narrowing its focus since: the Engineered Materials segment was sold effective 1 January 2025, leaving two reportable segments, Aerospace & Advanced Technologies and Process Flow Technologies. Its products are rarely visible to the end user — sensors, braking systems, power conversion units, valves and pumps — but they sit inside aircraft, defence systems, chemical and pharmaceutical plants and water networks, where failure is expensive. Full-year 2025 net sales were $2,305.0 million, up 8.2% from $2,131.2 million in 2024.

Como gera receita

Crane sells physical equipment: it designs and manufactures components, then earns revenue on the original equipment sold to manufacturers and on the spare parts, repairs and replacements bought later by the operators of that equipment. In aerospace the two streams are explicit — in 2025 original equipment manufacturers accounted for 66% of Aerospace & Advanced Technologies sales and aftermarket customers for 34%, while by end market commercial was 61% and military 39%. Aftermarket demand follows the installed base and flying hours rather than new build rates, so it tends to be steadier and carries higher margins. On the process side, revenue comes from valves, pumps and fluid-handling systems sold into plant projects, maintenance budgets and distribution channels. The 10-K states that the company competes by offering high quality, technologically differentiated products at competitive prices with superior service and timely delivery.

Receita por segmento

Process Flow Technologies54.5%

Engineered fluid handling equipment for mission critical applications that require high reliability, organised in three lines: process valves and related products (pharmaceutical, cryogenic, chemical and nuclear plants), pumps and systems (water and wastewater), and commercial valves (construction, gas utilities, municipalities). Sales were $1,256.1 million in 2025, up 4.8% from $1,198.5 million.

Aerospace & Advanced Technologies45.5%

Critical components and systems — pressure sensors, aircraft braking systems, power conversion solutions, lubrication systems — sold as original equipment and as aftermarket parts to commercial aerospace, military aerospace, defence and space customers. Sales were $1,048.9 million in 2025, up 12.4% from $932.7 million.

Vantagem competitiva

Custos de mudança · Estreita

The filing does not use the language of competitive advantage, but the nature of the products points to one. Aerospace components are specified and qualified into a particular aircraft, engine or defence programme and then stay there for the life of the platform, which can be decades; the same qualification that makes a part hard to win makes it hard to displace, and it gives Crane the aftermarket stream that follows — 34% of segment sales in 2025. Process valves for pharmaceutical, cryogenic and nuclear service face a similar barrier of certification and proven reliability, since the cost of a failure dwarfs the price of the valve. The advantage is real but narrow: the company itself describes competing on quality, technology, price, service and delivery, which is the description of a demanding market rather than a protected one, and Process Flow's commercial valve and pump lines sell into more contested, price-sensitive channels.

O que impulsiona a procura

Moderadamente cíclico

Demand comes from three clocks that rarely tick together. Aircraft build rates drive the 66% of aerospace sales that go to OEMs and swing with the airframers' production; flying hours drive the 34% aftermarket, which follows the installed fleet and recovers with traffic rather than with new orders; defence budgets drive the 39% military share and move on political rather than economic time. Process Flow follows industrial capital spending and maintenance budgets in chemicals, pharmaceuticals, cryogenics and water — plant projects can be deferred in a downturn, but maintenance and replacement spending on running plants is harder to postpone. The blend is neither defensive nor deeply cyclical: revenue bends in a recession but is cushioned by aftermarket, defence and maintenance work. The company's own risk factors say plainly that demand is variable and subject to factors beyond its control.

Principais riscos

  • Demand is variable and largely outside the company's control — The company lists as a risk that demand for its products is variable and subject to factors it does not control, alongside changes in economic and financial market conditions in the end markets it serves and the financial condition of its customers and suppliers.
  • Supply chain disruption and raw material prices — Item 1A flags disruption of the supply chain and access to key raw materials, together with fluctuations in raw material prices, inflationary pressures and tariffs, as risks to results.
  • Acquisitions may not be found, or not integrated — The company discloses the risk that it may not identify suitable acquisition targets or may fail to integrate the businesses it buys. This matters in practice: Crane completed several acquisitions around 2025, including cryogenic businesses in Process Flow and, effective 1 January 2026, a group of sensing and inspection businesses.
  • Non-US operations and regulation — Risks are disclosed for operations outside the United States and for compliance with governmental regulation, which for a supplier to defence and nuclear customers includes export controls and programme-specific rules.
  • Cybersecurity and data breach — The filing lists cybersecurity incidents and data breaches among its risk factors, affecting both the company's own systems and the information it holds.
  • Product liability, warranty and environmental exposure — Item 1A discloses product liability and warranty claims and environmental liabilities as risks — the ordinary consequence of selling components whose failure can be serious and of operating manufacturing sites.
  • Competition, product development and people — The company flags competitive pressure, the risk of failing to develop new products, and difficulty in recruiting and retaining employees; it also discloses possible impairment of intangible assets and risks to protecting its intellectual property.

Os argumentos a favor

Buyers argue that the separation left a cleaner company than the one that existed before: two segments instead of four businesses, with the Engineered Materials segment sold at the start of 2025 and the proceeds and balance sheet turned toward aerospace and process acquisitions. They point to 2025 growth of 8.2% on sales of $2,305.0 million with operating profit up 19.2% to $424.2 million and operating margin at 18.4%, and to the Aerospace segment growing 12.4% to $1,048.9 million at a 25.0% margin — evidence, in their reading, that the aerospace aftermarket and defence demand are compounding faster than the group average. They also argue that the aftermarket stream, 34% of aerospace sales, arrives regardless of new aircraft build rates, and that a growing order backlog gives visibility into future quarters.

Os argumentos contra

Sellers fear that the growth story leans on acquisitions rather than on the existing business: Process Flow, still the larger half at $1,256.1 million, grew 4.8% in 2025 and part of that came from recently acquired cryogenic businesses, while a further group of sensing and inspection businesses was added effective 1 January 2026. The company itself discloses that it may not find suitable targets or may fail to integrate the ones it buys, and each deal adds intangible assets that Item 1A says can be impaired. They also point to the risk factors the company lists as the ordinary weather of an industrial supplier: variable demand outside its control, supply chain disruption, raw material prices, inflation and tariffs. And they note the concentration by end market rather than by customer — a large part of aerospace revenue depends on commercial aircraft production rates and on defence budgets, two demand sources that a single airframer's rate cut or a budget cycle can move at once.
