Visão Geral

HP Inc. is an American technology company that designs and sells personal computers and printers in more than 170 countries. Its products are the everyday hardware of offices and homes: notebooks, desktops and workstations (including the Omen and Victus gaming lines and the newer AI PCs), office and home printers, large-format and commercial presses, 3D printing and additive-manufacturing systems, displays and retail point-of-sale equipment. Around the hardware HP sells the consumables and services that keep it running — ink and toner, endpoint security software, deployment and lifecycle support, extended warranties and subscription offerings. The company reports in three segments: Personal Systems, Printing and a very small Corporate Investments unit. HP Inc. is the PC-and-printing half of the old Hewlett-Packard Company, separated in 2015 from Hewlett Packard Enterprise, which kept the servers and enterprise IT business.

Como gera receita

Most of HP's money comes from selling hardware once: a PC or a printer is shipped, the revenue is booked, and the customer may not come back for three to five years. The second, smaller and historically far more profitable leg is the recurring one — printer supplies. HP sells printers at thin margins and earns on the ink and toner cartridges those printers consume for years afterwards, the classic razor-and-blades arrangement. A third and growing leg is services and subscriptions attached to the devices: security software, support contracts, extended warranties, device-as-a-service and managed print arrangements, which turn a one-off sale into a monthly fee. HP sells mainly through others — distributors, resellers, retailers and system integrators — rather than direct to the end customer, so its revenue depends on channel partners stocking and moving product.

Receita por segmento

Personal Systems69.7%

Notebooks, desktops, workstations, displays and related accessories and services, sold both to businesses and to consumers. In fiscal 2025 the commercial side was roughly two and a half times the size of the consumer side ($27.4bn against $11.1bn of the segment's $38.5bn).

Printing30.2%

Printers and presses for offices, homes and commercial print shops, plus the ink and toner supplies and the print services sold alongside them. Revenue here fell in fiscal 2025, held back by supplies and commercial printing.

Corporate Investments0.1%

A residual unit holding incubation projects and other activities outside the two operating businesses. At $62 million of fiscal 2025 revenue it is a rounding error in the group accounts.

Vantagem competitiva

Escala · Estreita

HP's advantage is size rather than uniqueness. It is one of the largest buyers of PC components in the world and one of the largest users of the global distribution channel, which lets it land a machine in a customer's hands at a cost few rivals can match — but the machine itself is a commodity assembled from parts anyone can buy, running an operating system HP does not own. The more durable piece sits in Printing: an installed base of printers that keeps consuming HP-designed cartridges, plus the fleet-management and security contracts that make a corporate customer slow to swap vendors. That advantage is real but eroding, since third-party and refilled cartridges attack exactly the part of the business that earns the margin. Narrow, not wide.

O que impulsiona a procura

Cíclico

Demand moves with the PC replacement cycle and with corporate IT budgets, and both are discretionary in a downturn: a company facing a bad year keeps its laptops one more year, and a household does the same. Fiscal 2025 shows the mechanism at work in the other direction — unit volumes rose on the back of a Windows operating-system refresh, an event driven by the software calendar rather than by any underlying growth in the number of people who need a computer. Printing carries a slightly steadier profile because supplies are consumed continuously by an installed base, but that consumption falls with office occupancy and with the long structural decline in how much the world prints. Expect the revenue line to swing with the economy and with refresh waves, rather than to compound quietly.

Principais riscos

  • Intense competition and price pressure — HP states that it competes intensely in both personal computing and printing, where rivals compete on price and margins are under continual pressure. Pricing actions by competitors can cost HP share or force it to give up margin to defend it.
  • Dependence on third-party suppliers and manufacturers — HP relies on outside suppliers for components and on outsourced manufacturers to build its products. It flags supply constraints, manufacturing disruption, logistics problems and component cost increases — including the effect of tariffs and trade policy — as risks to its cost structure and its ability to ship.
  • Third-party and counterfeit printing supplies — HP identifies non-original and counterfeit cartridges as a threat to its supplies business — the highest-margin part of Printing. Every cartridge bought from someone else is revenue that the installed base of HP printers does not deliver back to HP.
  • Macroeconomic and geopolitical conditions — HP points to macroeconomic and geopolitical trends, global trade policy, currency movements and capital-market volatility as factors that can weaken demand for PCs and printers and hit reported results. It sells in over 170 countries, so a large share of its revenue is exposed to currencies other than the dollar.
  • Reliance on distributors and resellers — HP sells predominantly through distributors, resellers and retailers rather than direct, and flags the execution of that sales strategy as a risk. Channel inventory decisions sit between HP and the end customer, which makes demand harder to read and revenue lumpier.
  • Demand forecasting and inventory — HP warns that it must forecast demand and commit to inventory ahead of orders. Guessing high leaves it with product to write down; guessing low leaves sales on the table.
  • Technological change, including artificial intelligence — HP lists the transition to new products and services and its response to emerging technologies — artificial intelligence explicitly among them — as a risk. Its AI PC push assumes customers will pay more for on-device AI; the filing treats that transition as uncertain, not assured.
  • Cybersecurity and data breaches — HP identifies cyber attacks and data security incidents — against its own systems and against products it has sold — as a risk to operations, reputation and legal exposure.
  • Restructuring execution and cost plans — HP states that its restructuring plans may not deliver the savings expected, and that execution of its strategic plans and business-model transformation is itself uncertain. Much of the recent earnings story rests on cost reduction rather than on growth.

Concentração de clientes

Os principais clientes representam 12% da receita

HP disclosed that one customer, the distributor TD Synnex, accounted for 12% of net revenue in fiscal 2025, and that no single customer reached 10% in fiscal 2024 or fiscal 2023. This is distributor concentration, not end-customer concentration: TD Synnex resells HP product to thousands of businesses, so the underlying demand is widely spread. What it does mean is that a meaningful slice of HP's revenue passes through one intermediary's ordering and inventory decisions, and that the disclosure crossed the reporting threshold only this year.

Os argumentos a favor

Buyers argue that HP is a cash machine bought at a modest price. The company sells tens of billions of dollars of product a year in a market it has occupied for decades, generates cash well in excess of what the business needs to reinvest, and returns it through dividends and buybacks. They point to fiscal 2025, when Personal Systems revenue grew on higher unit volumes and higher average selling prices as the Windows refresh pulled corporate fleets forward, and argue that AI PCs extend that wave: a machine with a neural processor sells for more than the one it replaces, and enterprises now have a reason to upgrade earlier than they otherwise would. On the Printing side buyers note that the installed base keeps consuming supplies whatever happens to hardware sales, and that the shift toward subscriptions and managed services makes that stream more contractual and less discretionary. Add a management team that has repeatedly taken cost out, and the argument is that even flat revenue produces rising earnings per share.

Os argumentos contra

Sellers fear that both halves of HP are slowly shrinking businesses dressed up by cost cuts. The PC is a commodity: HP assembles parts anyone can buy, runs software it does not own, and competes head-on with Lenovo, Dell and Apple on price — which is why growth arrives only when a software vendor forces a refresh, and why the next few years may simply give back what the Windows wave pulled forward. Printing is the deeper worry: the world prints less every year, non-original and counterfeit cartridges attack the exact cartridges that carry the margin, and fiscal 2025 already showed the segment's revenue falling, with supplies among the causes. Sellers also point at the input side — HP buys memory and other components on the open market, builds through outsourced manufacturers, and names tariffs and component costs as risks it does not control — and at the fact that 12% of revenue now moves through a single distributor. Their conclusion is that restructuring can flatter earnings for a while, but it cannot be repeated forever, and underneath it the revenue base is not growing.

Wall Street Is Wrong About HP Stock. Here's Why.

HP Inc. is trading at a "dirt-cheap" valuation, according to recent analysis, suggesting a potential undervaluation by Wall Street. The company also offers one of the best dividend yields in the market, providing a consistent income stream for shareholders. This combination of low valuation and strong dividend payout could signal an attractive opportunity for value-oriented investors seeking both capital appreciation and income, despite broader market sentiment.
