Unum sells the same workplace benefits package — group disability, group life and voluntary coverages — to the same US employers and brokers that MetLife's Group Benefits segment serves.
The Hartford's Employee Benefits arm competes head-on with MetLife for group life, disability and absence-management programmes at US employers of every size.
Aflac competes with MetLife in the same two markets that matter most to it: voluntary supplemental benefits sold at the US workplace, and life and health policies sold to Japanese households.
Principal chases the same small and mid-sized employers for group benefits and workplace retirement plans, and competes with MetLife Investment Management for institutional asset mandates.
Lincoln's Group Protection unit and its individual life and annuity lines target the same US employers and retail savers that MetLife pursues.
