FirstEnergy's four Pennsylvania distribution utilities sit directly alongside PPL Electric Utilities' 29-county territory, serving the same kind of regulated electricity customer in the same state and the same PJM market.
Exelon owns PECO in south-eastern Pennsylvania and, like PPL, is a pure regulated wires business whose revenue comes from delivering electricity and gas under state rate settlements rather than from selling power.
Through Kentucky Power in eastern Kentucky, AEP serves the same state-regulated electricity market as PPL's LG&E and Kentucky Utilities, competing before the same Kentucky Public Service Commission for rates and for new industrial load.
Duke Energy Kentucky distributes electricity and natural gas in northern Kentucky, the same dual electric-and-gas regulated business that PPL runs in Louisville and Lexington.
Eversource is the neighbouring New England electric and gas distributor, competing with PPL's Rhode Island Energy for the same regional customer base and for the same state-approved grid investment programmes.
National Grid sold the Rhode Island business to PPL in 2022 but still runs electricity and gas distribution in neighbouring Massachusetts and New York, serving the same New England and north-eastern customers.

PPL Corp reported strong Q1 earnings that surpassed analyst expectations. Despite the positive earnings surprise, the company has maintained its FY2026 EPS guidance. Analyst price targets remain mixed, reflecting a divergence in outlooks for the utility company. While the earnings beat is a short-term positive, the unchanged guidance and varied analyst sentiment suggest a neutral stance for investors, awaiting further catalysts or clarity on future performance drivers.
